This is a great piece, but I feel the lighting is off. When looking at the shot, it does have a 'vintage' feel, but again t...

A commentor on art?

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 8, 2009, 5:20 PM
Back when the internet was young, there was a lot of porn. Lets face it, the minute someone figured out how to draw pictures with ansi, some computer guy was making porn in a university computer lab instead of writting thesis about the new TCP/IP concept.

I was on it when the first browser was a "new fangled gadget" and when you use to use a dialup modem to log into someones basement who was running a Builtin Board. You then logged into the text editor and did your search. An hour later you download a picture of low res and view it.

The internet has done wonders for "non-porn" as well. There is more on the internet than "Mature Content". I have made many friends using the internet (and a few enemies!). But it has brought me a chance to see "art" in a way a person in a medium size town would not have.

Something that has been interesting me since I shed the shackles of "BB" and moved to a real ISP, is the concept of Body Paint.

The human form, is by definition, Natural Art. There is nothing more pointed than our own bodies. We come in many shapes. No two people will look the same in photograph. Add to that, a tallented hand who can color the body to make a statement, and you reached another stage.

I am not saying that body paint is a modern invention. It's been around since mud stuck to skin. Today's day and age has brought it to a more public form of art. Unlike a painting on canvas, a tattoo, or a fresco on a wall, body paint is a "now" medium. It washes off (though sometimes the model is a bit tinted if somethings gone wrong).

It is also not talked about as much in the public circles. The North American additude towards the body makes it seem like a very dark secret. It hard to discuss it with the guy next door.

Queue the internet. The artist can capture a moment of time, and post it to the world to see. I, as the art lover, can comment on this moment of time, and find a connection to it. It's not like commenting on a painting on the wall, or a fancy landscape. It is something that can not exist again.

So since I have very little actual art talent, I will comment on your moments in time. I will find what I like and hopefully others will agree.

Bodypaint is not porn (though like all things it can be made into porn). It is not something every mother wants their child to see. It is a moment in time, meant to give one thought. It changes the way the human form looks like. The movement of the body will change the image.

I do not know why I feel I must ramble about this tonight. I think finally joining deviantart has made me feel more like a community member. I can say that art is art. This is my little flag to say that the human body is art. Paint on the body is art. Those who think it isn't, or that it is just about 'sex' can walk away into the next page thank you very much.

Thanks Psychoticchic69 ... to be honest I hit the request print button by mistake. And Deviant has no way to unclick. I was heading for the download button to get a better look at the work.

It's an art-form that seems to be misunderstood in North America.

Sounds cliche but the human form is beautiful... and well the paint can add another layer of beauty to it.
